Women?s Hoops Suffers 72-63 Road Loss At Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The Ball State University women's basketball team lost a hard fought battle on the road to Kent State in Mid-American Conference action Saturday night at the M.A.C. Center. The Cardinals fell 72-63 to the Golden Flashes dropping to 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the MAC while Kent State improves to 11-7 and 4-2 in league play.
For the game junior forward Emily Maggert earned her 12th double-double of the season after scoring 22 points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Senior guard Audrey McDonald chipped in 11 points and classmate forward Danielle Gratton finished the night with 10.
Ball State shot 90 percent from the charity stripe while Kent State shot 88.9 percent from the free throw line . The score changed leads 14 times throughout the game with eight ties.
Maggert hit a layup at the start of the second half to give the Cardinals a 33-32 advantage over Kent State. Ball State built its biggest lead of the game 49-44 with 15 minutes left in the period.
The Golden Flashes went ahead 53-52 at the 8:56 mark. Both teams would trade baskets before Kent State went up 61-58 with under five minutes to play. Ball State would trail the remainder of the contest.
After falling behind early to the Golden Flashes 11-2 in the opening minutes of the game, Ball State quickly climbed its way back to tie the game 18-18 with 6:33 remaining in the first half after junior guard Ty'Ronda Benning hit a jumper in the lane.
Maggert knocked down two free throws to allow the Cardinals to take their first lead of the game 20-19 with just over six minutes left in the half. Kent State quickly went up 32-22 but the Cardinals would not go away lightly, Benning hit a layup at the buzzer and Ball State would only trail by one (32-31) at the half.
