Men's Golf Opens Season Saturday at Wolf Run

Ball State's men's golf team, under the direction of head coach Mike Fleck, will open its 2009-10 season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind., Saturday.
The 17-team tournament will consist of 36 holes of continuous play Saturday and the final 18 holes Sunday. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day, with Saturday's rounds consisting of a shotgun start and Sunday's final round featuring tee times off holes No. 1 and No. 10. Wolf run golf Club is currently ranked the 20th best course in the country in Golfweek's America's 100 Best Modern Courses, and will host the 2011 NCAA Midwest Men's Golf Regional.
Ball State will be joined at the event by Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, IUPUI, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, North Florida, Penn State, Purdue, Toledo, Tulsa and UCF.
The Cardinals' lineup will be Eric Steger, Eric Skillman, Brodie Williams, Anthony Novak and Ross Cosat.
Steger is Ball State's top returnee after posting a 74.45 average last season. He managed one top-10 and five top-20 finishes for the Cardinals last season as a sophomore. Cosat tallied a 75.63 average and managed two top-10 showings for Ball State. Novak, who was named Ball State's Most Improved Player a year ago, tallied a 76.11 average and earned medalist honors at Ball State's Cardinal Collegiate while playing as an individual last spring. Skillman tallied a 78.33 average, while Williams will be competing in his first collegiate event as a true freshman.
Ball State will host the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational Sept. 21-22 at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind., in its second event of the season.
