Women's Golf Team Announces Award Winners

Brittany Kelly (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern H.S.), a sophomore member of the Ball State University women's golf team, was selected as the Cardinals Most Valuable Golfer for the 2008-09 season.
Kelly led the Cardinals with a 77.88 average in 34 competitive rounds of golf this season. A 2009 All-Mid-American Conference Second Team selection, Kelly tallied nine top-20 finishes, including seven top-10 placings. She helped Ball State to three tournament titles -- the Ball State Cardinal Classic, the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational and the Eastern Kentucky El Diablo Invitational. Kelly helped Ball State to a school record low 18-holes with a 292 at the Ball State Cardinal Classic plus a school record low 36-hole total of 594.
Rachael Pruett (Linton, Ind./Linton-Stockton H.S.), a Ball State sophomore, was named the team's Most Improved Golfer, while Kristtini Cain (Marion, Ind./Marion H.S.) was named the Cardinals' Freshman of the Year.
Pruett competed in all 34 competitive rounds and was second on the team with a 78.88 average. She tallied eight top-20 finishes, including a tie for seventh at the El Diablo Invitational. Pruett managed a career low 73 two times this season, and improved her scoring average by 2.3 strokes from her 81.10 mark as a freshman.
Cain competed in all 34 rounds in her initial campaign and twice finished as Ball State's No. 1 golfer at tournaments. She tied for third at the Saluki Invitational and was third at the Ball State Cardinal Classic. Cain tallied a 79.47 average, and tallied a career low 72 at the Cardinal Classic. She managed six top-20 finishes, including five top-10 placings in 2008-09.
Under the direction of head coach Katherine Mowat, Ball State won three tournaments, set two school records and posted four additional top 10 tourney finishes in 2008-09.
