Men's Golf at Arizona State Friday and Saturday

Ball State's men's golf team will join some of the nation's top teams at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational Friday and Saturday. The tournament will be played at ASU's Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., with 36 holes scheduled for Friday and the final 18 to be played Saturday.
The course will be played to a par 71 and compete at 7,957 yards. Joining Ball State and the host Arizona State at the event will be Arizona, BYU, California, Colorado State, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Fresno State, UC Irvine, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, San Diego State, Texas Christian and UNLV.
Ball State's lineup will include Brian Maurer, Andrew Rhodes, Eric Steger, Ross Cosat and Anthony Novak.
Maurer leads the Cardinals with a 73.54 scoring average and is coming off a tie for fourth at the Marshall Invitational last week. He has posted six top-20 and three top-10 finishes this season.
Rhodes, who has four top-20 finishes, is averaging 74.23. Steger owns a 74.38 average, while Cosat has a 75.96 mark. Novak, who won the Ball State Cardinal Collegiate earlier this spring, owns a 76.12 mark for Ball State.
ASU has won six of the past 10 (1999-2001, 2003-2004, 2008) Thunderbird Invitational Tournaments and has won the tournament 13 of the past 20 years. Last year, ASU won the tournament with a 9-under 843 while Espen Kofstad of Denver won medalist honors with a 3-under 210.
