
Men's Tennis Loses To MAC Rival Western Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team suffered its first Mid-American Conference loss when it fell 5-2 to league rival Western Michigan Saturday evening at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. With the win WMU improves to 15-8 on the season and remains undefeated in the MAC. Ball State falls to 11-9 overall and 3-1 in league play.
The match was a hard fought battle as the Cardinals claimed the first doubles victory at No. 3. Senior Jorge Rodriguez and teammate freshman Derek Carpenter defeated Pablo Olivarez and Casey Cullen, 8-4. Ball State would drop its match at No. 1 and barely loss at No. 2 as the BSU twosome sophomore Eduardo Pavia and freshman Andres Monroy lost 9-8 (5).
In singles action the Cardinals won two of the six matches. Monroy posted a 7-5, 6-3 defeat against Cullen. Rodriguez would then win at No. 5 beating Olivarez 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6).
The Ball State University men's tennis team will host Notre Dame Monday in non-conference action at 2 p.m.
