Men's Golf Leading Four Nationally Ranked Teams

Ball State's men's golf team is tied for ninth at the 17-team Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational after the first two rounds. The final 18 holes will be played Saturday at the Kampen Golf Course on the ASU campus.
The Cardinals are tied with Oregon and Brigham Young after posting a 289-292=581. Ball State is one stroke ahead of 33rd ranked Arizona and 34th rated Colorado State. In addition, the Cardinals are leading 39th ranked New Mexico and 24th ranked UNLV after the first two rounds.
Arizona State is leading the tournament with a 559, while Denver owns a 566, TCU has a 570, UC-Irvine posted a 573 nd San Diego State carded a 577. The Cardinals are four strokes away from the fifth place SDSU Aztecs.
Senior Andrew Rhodes led Ball State with a 70-73=143 to place 16th in the field. Eric Steger manged a 78-69=147, despite battling the flu throughout the first two rounds. Brian Maurer carded a 73-74=147, and he and Steger are tied for 50th overall. Ross Cosat managed a 73-76=149, while Anthony Novak tallied a 73-77=150.
