PHOENIX, Ariz. - - The No. 10/15 Ball State men's volleyball team picked up its ninth-straight win with a 3-0 (30-13, 30-19, 30-18) sweep of Grand Canyon University Sunday afternoon at Antelope Gym in Phoenix, Ariz.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 10-4 on the year, while the Antelopes drop to 2-18. The victory was BSU's 10th over the last 11 matches.
Eric Schulte (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood H.S.) was the top attacker of the match, racking up a career-high 15 kills while hitting for a .565 (15-2-23) rate of success.
Ball State's J.D. Gasparovic (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville H.S.) dominated play at the net, tying a career-high with 13 total blocks (one solo and 12 assists). As a team, the Cardinals posted 16.5 total blocks for the second-straight night versus the Antelopes.
Setter Ethan Pheister (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood H.S.) guided the BSU offense to a season-high .459 (51-12-85) attack percentage on the afternoon, while the defense limited Grand Canyon to a -.069 (23-29-87) mark, which is a season-low for a Ball State opponent.
Clayton Hall was GCU's top attacker with six kills, while Mikel Meador added four.
Also aiding the Ball State offense was Lee Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller H.S.) with nine kills and a career-high .600 attack percentage and Dominic Spadavecchio (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd H.S.) with eight kills, while Billy Ebel (Lenexa, Kan./Bishop Miege H.S.) added a match-best eight digs.
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to action Wednesday, when it travels to Ohio State for a pivotal Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association showdown with the Buckeyes at 7 p.m
