
Softball Falls 3-2 To East Tennessee State Sunday

CLEARWATER, Fla. ? The Ball State softball team fell one run short with a 3-2 loss to East Tennessee State Sunday for the team's last game in Florida.
The Buccaneers (15-5) notched five singles in the first inning, scoring an early three runs.
Ball State gave up two hits again in the second, but did not allow the opponent passed first.
Two walks in the bottom of the second put runners on first and second for the Cardinals. Jackie Durment pinch ran for Jen Reifschneider on second base and bagged two bases after Kate Wilczynski's RBI single for a score of 3-1. Wilczynski made six assists in the game.
Lisa Rozanski notched her second triple of the season to start off the bottom of the third. Ball State chipped away with another run as Alicia Barkley made a sacrifice hit to drive Rozanski in for the team's second run.
Ball State's Elizabeth Milian came in to pitch for Laura Masch at the top of the fourth. Masch earned one strikeout and gave up no walks in three innings of work.
Reifschneider, Milian and pinch hitter Jen Moore all sent deep flies into the outfield to end the fourth.
In the fifth, Kamilah Holle made a diving attempt at second to throw the batter out; however, the runner made it to first. A line drive back to Milian on the mound ended the inning. The Cardinals still did not allow East Tennessee State past second base, despite giving up eight hits.
The Buccaneers got another hit to begin the sixth, but the runner was caught stealing on a quick throw from catcher Natalie Bejarano to Holle at second base.
Ball State could not hold on in the bottom of the seventh which resulted in the 3-2 loss. Wilczynski and Barkley logged two hits for the Cardinals while the Buccaneers earned 10.
Ball State (8-12 overall) ended with a 6-7 record while playing in Florida. The Cardinals are set to play in their home opener March 18 against Valparaiso in a double header starting at 2 p.m.
