
Softball?s Power At The Plate Leads To 15-3 Victory

ATHENS, Ga. ? The Ball State softball team concluded the three-day Georgia Softball Classic with a 15-3 win against IUPUI 11 a.m. Sunday.
IUPUI (1-8 overall) started the scoring with one run in the second inning. The Cardinals came back with a high offense attack when, with one out, senior outfielder Allie Pennock (Waterloo, Ill. /Gibault Catholic) tripled to right center knocking in sophomore third baseman Kathryn Wilczynski (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro) and sophomore outfielder Lisa Rozanski (Tampa, Fla./Alonso) for two runs. The triple sparked more offense for Ball State with four hits, four walks, two singles and a stolen base. Wilczynski followed suit with a triple of her own into as the Cardinals batted around the inning, earning seven runs.
IUPUI logged another run in the bottom of the third. The Jaguars controlled the Cardinals' scoring the next two innings. But Ball State could not be contained for long as they connected on nine hits, seven singles and two walks for a total of eight runs. Freshman catcher Amanda Montalto (Las Vegas, Nev. /Palo Verde) also earned her first career double in the inning. Junior right handed pitcher Elizabeth Milian (Grand Blanc, Mich. /Grand Blanc) stepped to the plate with bases loaded, hitting a single for two RBI to put the score at 12-2. The Cardinals earned three more runs to put the game out of reach for the Jaguars at 15-3. Ball State out-hit IUPUI 13-5.
Milian earned her second win after pitching five strikeouts with no walks.
The Cardinals (2-3 overall) travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Razorback Invitational. On Friday, the team faces Wichita State (5-7 overall) 1:30 p.m. and Arkansas (6-7 overall) 6 p.m. Ball State will also play Bradley and South Dakota State Saturday, with a championship game held on Sunday.
