Golf Alums Maurer and Wilkes-Krier Make Run at Q-School

Ball State men's golf alums Brian Maurer and Patrick Wilkes-Krier advanced to the First Stage of the PGA Qualifying Tournament before being eliminated from the PGA's Q-School.
Maurer managed a 71-74-75-77=297 to miss the cut to advance to the Second Stage by eight strokes. He was competing at Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst in Pinehurst, N.C. Maurer tied for 40th and missed the cut at his event where the top 21 qualifiers moved on to the Second Stage.
Maurer, who graduated from Ball State in 2009 and was a four-year member of the Cardinals' men's golf team, won his Pre-Qualifying Stage with a 70-68-70-68=276 at Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.
Wilkes-Krier, who graduated from Ball State in 2006, tied for third at his Pre-Qualifying Stage at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club's South Course in Dade City, Fla. Wilkes-Krier managed a 70-66-67-71 to advance to the First Stage. He tallied a 72-71-76-72=291 to tie for 34th in the First Stage and missed the cut to advance to the Second Stage by four strokes.
