MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Brandl (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week after compiling 34 total kills in two conference matches last week.
"Kelsey has been the focal point of our offense the last few weeks and has truly earned this award," said Ball State head coach Dave Boos. "Her aggressive play has kept us in matches and helped her develop into one of the top hitters in the league. She is a dominate force in the middle and her physical style of play is hard for other teams to contain."
In Friday's match versus Bowling Green, Brandl threw down a career and match-high 20 kills to go with a .516 (20-4-31) attack rate. At the net, she recorded four blocks and helped limit the Falcons to a .214 (59-25-159) attack percentage. She also added two digs and an ace in the contest.
In Saturday's outing versus Miami, Brandl led all athletes again, driving home another 14 kills while hitting .370 (14-4-27). She blasted a career-high tying four aces from the service line, while adding four more blocks and two more digs.
For the week, Brandl hit .448 (34-8-58) and averaged 3.78 kills per set. She enters this week ranked first in the MAC with a .406 (108-24-207) attack percentage in league-only contests, while her .368 (257-31-593) overall hitting mark ranks second in the conference.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to the road this weekend with matches at Western Michigan (Friday) and Northern Illinois (Saturday). The first serve for both matches is slated for 7 p.m. local time.
