MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State athletic department will host its third annual Basketball Fan Jam Thursday, October 29 at Worthen Arena from 6:30-8 p.m. Fan Jam is presented by First Merchants Bank, Marsh Supermarkets and Centennial Wireless. The free community event allows fans a chance to get "up close and personal" with the 2009-10 men's and women's basketball teams.
The first 250 kids 18-and-under will receive a mini basketball free for attending the event. Free food, games and chances to win prizes will be available during the event. Fans will also get a chance to meet and take pictures with the Ball State cheerleaders, Code Red and Charlie Cardinal.
The Basketball Fan Jam is the official tip-off for the 2009-10 season and will include team introductions of all of the Cardinals' student-athletes and coaches. Also, there will be an autograph session on the Worthen Arena floor where posters for both the men's and women's 2009-10 season will be available for fans.
The official home of the Cardinals, WLBC 104.1 FM, will be broadcasting live from the event, with Steve Lindell on hand from 5-7 p.m.
The Ball State men's basketball team is coming off of a Mid-American Conference West Division championship and will open the 2009-10 season November 13 when it hosts instate rival Valparaiso. The season opener is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Worthen Arena.
The BSU women's basketball team is coming off of a story book season as the Cardinals claimed the program's first-ever MAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Cardinals advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, knocking off perennial women's basketball power Tennessee. Ball State opens the 2009-10 season November 5 when it hosts the Hoosier Lady Stars in an exhibition contest at 7:30 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
