Under the guidance of 31st-year head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill, the Cardinals return 23 letterwinners from last season's squad that posted seven school records and 15 performances which ranked in the top three in program history.
The Cardinals will be led this season by a core group of eight seniors who were responsible for seven of the top three efforts. Senior Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) swam her way to a school record in the 400 individual medley (4:25.41), while picking up the program's second-best 1650 freestyle (17:05.33) and third-best 200 butterfly (2:02.62) times.
Senior Emily Karwoski (Hurst) (Zionsville, Ind./North Central), who married men's swimming and diving senior Ben Karwoski this past summer, posted the school record in the 200 individual medley (2:05.56), while clocking in with the second-best 200 breaststroke (2:18.96) in program annals.
Senior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central H.S.) qualified for the 2009 NCAA Zone C Diving Meet at Minnesota's University Aquatic Center, where she placed 24th on the three-meter board and 28th in the one-meter event. She also posted the program's second-best one-meter score (281.85) and third-best three-meter score (301.13) over the course of the season, which qualified her for the zone meet.
Other seniors looking to lead the Cardinals this season are: Chelsea Giuffre (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph H.S.), Kaitlin Jasmon (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin H.S.), Kelly Johnson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.), Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) and Allyson McGaha (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth H.S.).
BSU's junior class includes Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) who posted the school-record in the 100 butterfly (55.79) and the second-best 200 butterfly (2:01.72) in program history, as well as Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) who tallied the third-best 100 freestyle (51.78) in BSU's record book.

The Cardinals also welcome in a talented group of 11 newcomers to complete the 34-women roster for the season.
The Red/White Meet will serve as the team's final tune-up before it opens the 2009-10 season with a pair of Mid-American Conference dual meets next weekend. The Cardinals host Toledo Friday (Oct. 30) at 6 p.m. and Bowling Green Saturday (Oct. 31) at 1 p.m.
