Field Hockey Closes Maryland Trip With Loss To Bucknell
September 06, 2008 | Field Hockey
Though the weather made it tough to see, freshman midfielder Caitlin Maguire (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy) allowed Ball State to attack early as she recorded her first collegiate goal on an assist by freshman forward Katie Norris (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy). That goal would be tied just before halftime by Bucknell.
Maguire added a second goal in the next half but would be the lone Cardinal to score for Ball State. Freshman forward Brittany Hammer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) added one shot on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett (Yorktown, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) played 70 minutes and logged four saves on the day, earning a total of 20 saves in the first four games.
Ball State showed more accuracy in their shots on goal with two out of three; however, Bucknell was able to connect on four of their eight shots on goal.
Morgan Kauffman led the Bison, (now 2-1) with two goals, and Amanda Faust broke Bucknell's career assist record with 27.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, September 12 when they make their home opener against Michigan at 3 p.m. in Muncie, Ind.
