
Field Hockey Suffers Loss Against Towson

Owings Mills, Md. ? The Ball State field hockey team suffered a 7-0 setback at the hands of Towson University Friday afternoon to open its two-game stint in Maryland.
Sophomore defender Elizabeth Blaum (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory) and freshman midfielder Caitlin Maguire (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy) posted the only shots on goal for the Cardinals as Tigers goalkeeper Whitney Clugston recorded her second straight shutout to open the season. Towson held Robert Morris shotless in their season opener.
Christina Boarman led Towson with a career-high tying four goals, including what proved to be the game winner 2:43 into the contest. The Tigers' three other goals were scored by Kristie Blumer, Katie DeFilippo and Blythe Mackie.
Cardinals end their two-day trip to Maryland Saturday at 10 a.m. with a showdown versus Bucknell University.
