
Field Hockey Team Suffers 2-0 Loss to Indiana

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State field hockey team lost to Indiana Saturday by a 2-0 decision at Ball State Turf Field.
The Cardinals (1-7) remained tied with Indiana in the first half, however, Haley Funk connected on the first goal of the day for the Hoosiers in the 41st minute. Funk also added the second and final goal just six minutes later on an assist from teammate Lena Grote.
Ball State tried to maintain even statistics with Indiana as they tallied nearly the same number in shots, trailing 9-8 in the second half. Both teams also had three penalty corners during the last 35 minutes.
Senior forward Casey Hunsicker (Myerstown, Pa./Tulpehocken) led the Cardinals with three shots on Hoosier goalkeeper Alex Mann, who tallied six saves in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett (Yorktown Va./Hampton Roads Academy) nearly tied her previous single game save record in just the first half with seven saves. Shifflett would later break that as she earned 11 saves total for the day.
Senior defender Jodi Mann (Clifton, Va./Centreville) would add another defensive save to her collection, totaling five on the year.
The Cardinals are back on the road Sunday, September 28 where the team will take on Missouri State at 11 a.m.
