Women's Tennis Earns Academic Honors From ITA

MUNCIE, Ind. - The 2007-08 Ball State University women's tennis team was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Academic Team for the tenth consecutive year. The Cardinals have earned the prestigious award 11 times over the last 12 years.
Six members of the squad received individual ITA Scholar Athlete accolades -- senior Haly Calderwood (Newington, Australia/Danebank), senior Stephanie Farrar (Phoenix, Ariz./Active Learning Academy), sophomore Hayley Hall (Muncie, Ind/Delta), senior Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, Tenn./White Station), senior Emma Retter (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) and sophomore Georgina Thomson (Sydney, Australia/St. Margert's).
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2007 and spring 2008).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
The BSU women's tennis team boasts a cumulative 3.55 GPA.
The Cardinals will open their season Friday, Sept. 26 when they host the Ball State Invitational at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
