Baseball Announces The Signing Of Tim Issler
June 26, 2008 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State head baseball coach Greg Beals on Thursday announced the signing of Tim Issler (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier HS) to a National Letter of Intent.
Issler was a three-year letterwinner at St. Xavier for coach Bill Slinger. He played shortstop as a junior and senior and led the Bombers to a district championship in both seasons. As a junior, he helped St. Xavier to the regional semifinals.
"The biggest asset Tim brings to our program is that he is a steady defensive player in the middle of the infield," Beals said. "He has the ability to make plays at a high rate, which is something our team defense needs. He is also an outstanding student who has earned a presidential scholarship at Ball State."
As a senior in 2008, Issler hit .426 with nine doubles and 24 RBI on his way to first team all-league, second team all-city and honorable mention all-state honors. As a junior in 2007, he was a second team all-league selection and an honorable mention all-state recipient.
Issler has also played summer baseball for the past 10 seasons as part of the Cincinnati Flames, helping the team to the 1999 CABA and 2005 NABF National Championships.
Issler is the seventh player to sign with Ball State for the 2009 season, joining six others who signed with the Cardinals during the early period last November.
