Women's Golf Recruit Eliminated in Semifinals

K.C. Cain (Marion, Ind./Marion H.S.), who signed a national letter of intent to attend Ball State and play for women's golf coach Katherine Mowat, advanced to the semifinals of the Diet Dr. Pepper Girls' State Junior Championship before being eliminated.
Cain was eliminated in the semifinals in a match play contest with Kristi Cardwell. Cardwell won 2 up and advanced to the finals to face Ashley Kees.
After leading through the first two rounds of stroke play with a 76-74=150, Cain defeated Ariana Savich 3 & 2 in the first round of match play to advance to the semifinals.
The State Junior was played at Harrison Lake Country Club in Columbus, Ind., and Cain entered match play as the top seed after her four-stroke win in the first two rounds.
Cain, a 10-time winner on the Indiana Mountain Dew Junior Tour, placed first at the North Central Conference high school meet last season with a seven-under par and course-record score of 66. She tied for sixth at the state meet with consecutive rounds of 75, after earning medalist honors at sectional. In addition, Cain was the 2007 Westfield Junior PGA Championship Qualifier and a two-time Indiana Masters Tour Champion.
The State Junior Championships are open to amateur golfers who have not yet reached their 20th birthday as of June 27, 2008. High school graduates are eligible for tournament play only during the summer following their graduation.
