Men's Golf Signs TJ Carpenter to National Letter of Intent

"We are very excited to have TJ join the Ball State golf family," Fleck says. "He is an outstanding student who has done excellent things on the golf course. It is a priority for Ball State to continue to attract the top golfers in the state of Indiana, and TJ is another in that rich tradition. We are looking forward to TJ joining Zac Henderson and Zac Treash as our recruiting class for 2008-09."
Carpenter, who will begin sectionals May 30, is a two-time Warsaw Sectional medalist, including last spring when he fired a 69 to claim the title. A three-time All-Northern States Conference selection, he has earned medalist honors two times at the conference championships. Carpenter is the only golfer in the 34-year history of the Marshall County Championship to win the title three straight seasons.
As a junior, he finished in the top five at every invitational, including a top two finish in five of the seven events.
Last summer, Carpenter played on the Indiana Golf Foundation Tour and posted five top-20 finishes in the seven events. He tied for second at the Harrison Lake Country Club Masters with a 70, and tied for fourth in his age group championship on the Indiana National Golf Club East Course with a 73-76=149.
Carpenter, who is coached in high school by his uncle, Jack Carpenter, is also a three-time Triton High School Most Valuable Player and a three-time Rozella Ford Club Champion.
The son of Jenny and Dave Carpenter, TJ owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average at Triton. He has been accepted to Ball State with Honors Distinction and was awarded a Presidential Scholarship from the school. Carpenter is ranked fifth in his class and expected to major in accounting at Ball State. He is president of Triton's National Honor Society plus is on the Student Council and involved with the Future Business Leaders of America.
