
Softball Splits DH Against Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio ? The Ball State softball team won a wild first game 13-11, but fell 6-2 to the Raiders in game two.
The Cardinals had a big first inning as Alyssa Collins was walked to start the game. Collins advanced to second base on a wild pitch by Sharon Palma.
Alicia Barkley hit a ball to the right side of the infield that got past the first basemen for an RBI single. Barkley got to advance to second because no Raider covered the base.
Barkley advanced to third off another wild pitch, and eventually scored off a throwing error by the catcher.
Elizabeth Milian continued her hot steak at the plate with an RBI single to left field pushing the BSU lead to 3-0
Kamilah Holle hit an RBI single to right field for the Cardinals, and Collins kept the inning alive with a ground ball up the middle allowing Kathryn Wilczynski and Holle to score.
BSU scored six runs off four hits to take an early lead.
Wright State battled back as Jamie Perkins singled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. A double from Louie Haney moved Perkins to third. Jherica Williams slammed a home run over the fence in left field cutting the Cardinal lead to 6-3.
Mollie Berry hit a triple to left center field allowing Allison Cox to score. An RBI single from Bridget Henry closed the gap to 6-5.
The Cardinals were retired in order during the top of the second inning.
Perkins hit a double to right field to start the second inning for Wright State. Williams was intentionally walked after hitting a home run in the first inning, giving the Raiders runners on first and second.
Kristen Bradshaw hammered a two RBI double to left field to give the Raiders the lead at 7-6. The second inning ended with another Raider run as Bradshaw scored while Berry was in a rundown between first and second base. Berry was eventually tagged out, but the run scored first giving the Raiders an 8-6 lead.
Amanda Pick hit a single to center field to lead off the third inning. Milian followed with a double to right center field giving the Cardinals two runners in scoring position early in the inning.
Pick scored off a wild pitch from Ashleigh Jackson. Milian advanced to third. Holle regained the lead for BSU when she hit her first home run of the season to left center field.
Jackson was pulled after the home run, and Palma re-entered the game. Ball State was able to score one more run in the third off an error by Wright State making the score 10-8.
Ball State threatened to increase their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Collins came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. She hit a hard ground ball to the left side of the infield, but Bradshaw made a nice play to get the force out at third base to end the inning.
Both teams cooled off as there were no runs scored in the fourth or fifth inning.
Holle increased the lead with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth. Holle now has two career multi home run games. She hit two home runs last year against Middle Tennessee State.
Allie Pennock hit an RBI single to right field that sent Collins home giving the Cardinals the lead 13-8.
Cox hit a two RBI double to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning bringing the Raiders back within three runs of BSU.
Wright State loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cox came to the plate with two outs. She hit a line drive down the third base line, and Wilczynski made the play to seal the win for BSU.
Milian recorded the win on the mound for Ball State. Milian threw a complete game and struck out four batters to pick up her 11th win of the year.
Wright State took an early 2-0 lead in game two. Perkins led off with a single followed by a double by Haney. Williams hit a sacrifice fly to left field allowing both runners to advance.
Williams hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to give the Raiders a 4-0 lead.
The Cardinals tried to make a comeback in the sixth inning. Lisa Rozanski returned to the lineup, and was walked to start the inning. Rozanski stole second base giving her a team-high 20 steals on the season. Collins hit an RBI triple to left center field to send Rozanski home, and set herself up in scoring position with Abby Gross up next.
Gross delivered an RBI single, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals only scored two runs. BSU was limited to three hits. Collins led the team going 2-3.
Tiffany Garofano took the loss on the mound for Ball State. She struck out five batters in six innings.
The Cardinals return to the BSU Softball Complex this weekend as they face Mid-American Conference foe Toledo in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
