Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at MAC; O'Connor Honored

The Ball State University women's golf team finished fifth at the Mid-American Conference Championships played at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Cardinals tallied a team score of 313 in Sunday's final round to finish fifth in the eight-team field. Ball State finished 20 strokes ahead of sixth-place Ohio, and only five strokes behind fourth-place Western Michigan. Kent State won the event, while Eastern Michigan was second and Toledo was third.
Ball State's Kirsty O'Connor was named to the All-MAC Second Team for her body of work during the season. She posted an 81 in the final round of the MAC Championships and placed 28th in the tournament.
Paige Esford fired a final round 74 and tied for 13th in the 40-person field, while Brittany Kelly managed a 77 to tie for 16th.
Sarah Windlan tallied an 81 and tied for 23rd, and Amy Roberts managed an 81 to finish 33rd for the event.
The Cardinals, under the direction of head coach Katherine Mowat, won four tournaments this season. Ball State won in its season-opening event last fall and then posted three tournament wins this spring.
Ball State returns its top four players from the MAC Championships -- Esford (sophomore), Kelly (freshman), Windlan (junior) and O'Connor (sophomore) -- and the Cardinals have no seniors on the 2007-08 team.
