
Softball Sweeps Eastern Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State softball team improved their conference record to 8-8 with two wins against Eastern Michigan. The Cardinals won the first game 7-0, and held off the Eagles in game two to win 5-4.
The Cardinals are now 33-27 overall. Only two teams in Ball State softball history have won more games in a season. The 1998 team holds the best record in school history at 39-17, while the 1989 team has the second best record at 34-16.
Alicia Barkley went 3-for-4 in game one with two RBIs to lead the Cardinals. She hit an RBI double in the fourth inning, and increased the lead with an RBI single up the middle in the sixth inning.
Amanda Pick hit a double to left centerfield to give the Cardinals the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Alyssa Collins went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Lisa Rozanski scored three runs for BSU to pick up the 7-0 win.
Ashley Strauss hit a two-run home run to give the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead in game two. Ball State chipped away at the lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Delapaz increased the EMU lead with a solo home run to left field in the top of the fifth inning. Ball State countered by picking up four runs off four hits in the bottom of the inning.
Allie Pennock led off with a double down the left field line. Rozanski followed in the order with a base hit to centerfield. The centerfielder misplayed the ball, and Rozanski was able to score tying the game at 3-3. Pick gave the Cardinals the lead with a triple to right centerfield. She now has two triples on the year.
Elizabeth Milian came in to earn her fourth save of the year. Milian threw the final two innings and only allowed two hits. Tiffany Garofano picked up her 12th win of the season. She tossed five innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Rozanksi went 3-for-4 in game two, and scored two runs. She has scored 38 runs for the Cardinals this season moving her to second all-time in school history. Rozanski also closed in on the stolen bases record. She has 36 stolen bases. The single-season record is 37, set by Heather Hinkle in 1998.
Ball State will host Central Michigan tomorrow, April 26th at 2:00 p.m.
