
Softball Splits DH Against Eastern Illinois

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State softball team split a doubleheader with
Eastern Illinois took the lead in game one off a two-run home run by Robyn Mackie.
The Cardinals answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alicia Barkley hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Lisa Rozanski to score the first run of the game for BSU.
Abby Gross set the Ball State single-season RBI record with a double to centerfield. Gross leads the team with 42 RBIs.
The international tie-breaker came into effect as the game remained tied through seven innings.
Eastern Illinois was able to generate a run in the eighth off a Ball State error. The Cardinals left a runner stranded on third, giving the Panthers a 3-2 victory.
Tiffany Garofano took the loss on the mound for BSU. Garofano limited the Panthers to three hits, and struck out 10 batters in a losing effort.
Megan Nelson led off the second game with a single for the Panthers. Nelson stole second base, and advanced to third off a wild pitch. Denee' Menzione hit a single through the left side of the infield to give EIU the 1-0 lead.
Ball State tied the game in the bottom of the first inning. Karyn Mackie walked Rozanski to lead off the inning. Rozanksi stole second base, and moved to third off a ground out from Alyssa Collins.
Gross recorded another RBI in game two with a groundout to second base that allowed Rozanski to score. Rozanski leads the team with 33 steals. She also has a team-high 33 runs scored.
Mackie hit an RBI double to left centerfield for the Panthers in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Ball State was able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning as Amanda Pick hit a double to right centerfield. Pick was able to advance to third off a wild pitch. Kate Wilczynski hit an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
Ball State led off the bottom of the seventh inning with two base hits. Elizabeth Milian loaded the bases with one out after being walked by Kathleen Jacoby. Jacoby got out of the inning by striking out back-to-back BSU batters.
The international tie-breaker was once again put into effect to start the eighth inning. The Panthers left a base runner at third, as Milian struck out Melinda Jackson to end the inning.
Rozanski started the eight inning on second base for Ball State. Collins picked up her first hit of the game at a great time as she singled to right field allowing Rozanksi to score the game winning run.
Laura Masch got the start for BSU in game two. Masch struck out two batters, and was replaced by Milian in the fifth inning. Milian did not allow a Panther hit, and stuck out four batters to earn the win.
The Cardinals will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday April 23, to face the Ohio State Buckeyes. Game one of the doubleheader will start at 5:00 p.m.
