Women?s Tennis Suffers 3-4 Setback To Interstate Rival Butler

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Despite a strong doubles effort, the Ball State women's tennis squad suffered a 4-3 setback to Butler Wednesday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA.
The Cardinals move to 6-4 on the year, while Butler, which has won six out of its last seven matches, improves to 6-7.
Senior Haly Calderwood (Sydney, Australia, Danebank H.S.) and partner senior Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, TN White Station H.S.) won in No. 1 doubles with a set score of 8-5.
In the No. 2 spot freshman Georgina Thomson (Sydney, Australia, St. Margaret's H.S.) and sophomore Katherine Rist (Leawood, Kan., Blue Valley North H.S.) also won with the set score of 8-3.
Ball State was down in the match by the score of 3-1 before freshman Hayley Hall and Thomson both won in the four and five singles spots.
Hall beat Butler's Becky Jenkins 6-4, 6-1 before Thomson secured the tying point against Butler's Tiffany McLoughlin 6-3, 6-4.
However Butler's Michelle Hawes came from behind to defeat sophomore Katherine Rist in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot to secure the win for the Bulldogs.
Next up for the Cardinals is the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday March 7, at 1 p.m.
