MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State athletics will be promoting breast cancer awareness this weekend at all of its home athletic events in honor of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Think Pink Initiative. The athletic department will be raising awareness in the battle against breast cancer at six different events this weekend on campus. Fans are encouraged to wear pink at all events this weekend to help in the fight against breast cancer.
The Think Pink weekend will kick off Friday afternoon as the Ball State women's tennis team takes on Valparaiso at 1 p.m. at the YMCA Tennis Courts. The Cardinal players will be wearing Think Pink t-shirts during warm-ups to show their support.
The Think Pink weekend will continue Friday night at Irving Gym as the Ball State gymnastics team battles Bowling Green at 6 p.m. Breast cancer awareness information courtesy of Ball Memorial Hospital will be available at the meet as well as Think Pink t-shirts being thrown out to fans by the BSU gymnasts.
Also, this weekend will be alumni weekend for Ball State Gymnastics. Former All-American Sarah Mikrut will be at the meet before she is inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame that same evening.
Saturday afternoon will see the Think Pink weekend turn into high gear as four more events on campus will take part in the breast cancer initiative. Saturday's festivities will kick off at 1 p.m. at the Lewellen Aquatic Center where BSU women's swimming and diving takes on Miami. Think Pink t-shirts will be thrown out to fans during the meet as well.
The Cardinal women's basketball team continues the weekend at 3 p.m. as it hosts Akron at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will be one of 800 teams across the country taking part in WBCA's signature event. The first 300 fans will receive Think Pink t-shirts in addition to breast cancer awareness information provided by Ball Memorial Hospital, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Muncie's The Little Red Door.
Also, the Cardinals will be wearing pink shooting shirts and shoelaces and the referees will be using pink whistles to show their support in the fight against breast cancer. Yorktown native and cancer survivor Lyn Waters will be singing the national anthem prior to the game.
The weekend's events will conclude with men's swimming and diving against Miami at the Lewellen Aquatic Center at 4 p.m. and the men's basketball game against Akron at 7 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
