December 03, 2008 | Women's Golf
Autumn Duke (Fishers, Ind.), a senior at Hamilton Southeastern High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ball State University and compete on the women's golf team, according to head coach Katherine Mowat.
"We are very excited to sign a player of Autumn's talent," Mowat says. "She is an outstanding golfer and student-athlete, and is a perfect fit for our program at Ball State. I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach Autumn, who was a national champion in rock climbing and on her team's state champion golf team this fall. Hamilton Southeastern has a tremendous golf program and we are proud to welcome a second HSE player to our roster. Autumn and current sophomore, Brittany Kelly, will help us continue to win tournaments and compete for the Mid-American Conference Championship."
Duke was a senior member of the 2008 Indiana High School Athletic Association State Championship Girls Golf Team at Hamilton Southeastern this past fall. She also helped the Royals to runner-up finishes in 2006 and 2007.
As a senior, Duke averaged 76.2 and placed first in the regional and 10th in the state finals. She also placed second in the sectional and third at the Hoosiers Crossroads Conference Championships this past fall. Duke was named to the all-state and all-conference teams as a senior, and was an all-county selection as a junior and senior.
As a junior, she was the low medalist at the sectional and placed 17th at the state finals. In her sophomore season, Duke was low medalist at the sectional, placed third at the regional and was 17th at the state championships.
Duke, who was coached by Steve Guenin at Hamilton Southeastern High School, owns a 3.33 grade-point average on Hamilton Southeastern's 4.3 scale. She is a member of the Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society.
In addition to her golf and academic honors, Duke is an accomplished rock climber. She placed first in the Junior USA Climbing Bouldering National and the Junior USA Climbing Difficulty Nationals in 2004. In addition, she was ranked No. 1 in the nation in 2004, and placed 12th at the Junior World Nationals in Scotland.
