MUNCIE, Ind. - - Over the holiday weekend, Ball State swimmers Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) and Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) were named the Mid-American Conference Swimmers of the Week as announced by the league office.
The duo earned the honors after putting together several strong performances in the 2008 Doug Coers Invitational Nov. 21-22.
“Mary had a fantastic weekend, winning three individual events,” said co-head coach Bob Thomas. “She was the only swimmer at the meet to accomplish that feat, and played a large role in guiding the women to a first place team finish. Chris was the high-point finisher for the BSU men's team, posting season best times in all three events.”
Ehresman helped guide the Ball State women's squad to a first-place showing at the Doug Coers Invitational, posting first-place individual finishes in three events, while also helping pick up a relay win. Ehresman paced the three-team event in the three longest individual events, capturing the top spots in the 400 IM (4:38.59), 500 freestyle (5:11.96) and 1650 freestyle (17:48.46). She also swam the final leg of the 800 freestyle relay, anchoring the team to a first-place clocking of 7:56.94.
Krupa helped lead the men's program to a second-place showing in the Doug Coers Invitational, recording first, second and third place individual finishes. Krupa captured the event title in the 100 butterfly (52.88), while placing second in the 200 fly (1:57.44) and third in the 200 IM (1:58.31). He was also a member of three second-place relay squads; 400 freestyle relay (3:10.45), 200 medley relay (1:38.34) and the 400 medley relay (3:36.07).
The Ball State men's and women's swimming & diving teams return to action Dec. 5-6, when they compete in the 2008 House of Champions meet hosted by IUPUI.
