
Field Hockey Suffers Loss At Central Michigan 4-2

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. ? The Ball State field hockey team fell on the road to the Central Michigan Chippewas 4-2 Saturday dropping its overall record to 2-15, 1-8 in the Mid-American Conference.
Jodi Mann got things started quickly for Ball State after deflecting a shot in from Melanie Pasillas ten minutes into the game.
Ball State led 4-3 in penalty corner opportunities for the first half; however, the Cardinals trailed 8-3 in shots.
Central Michigan's Kim Erasmus connected on one of those shots for her first goal of the season off a penalty corner opportunity. Erasmus earned her second goal twelve minutes later, allowing the Chippewas' to jump ahead 2-1 at the end of the first half.
The teams played even during the first 17 minutes of the second half, but Alison Kist and Moyra Betuzzi scored two more goals for Central Michigan late in regulation.
Jodi Mann managed to pick up her second goal of the match, fifth of the season, with an assist from Kaitlin Mitchell for the final goal of the game at the 68:12 mark. Mann delivered a perfect 2-2 on goal attempts.
Goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett denied five of the Chippewas' shots, putting her second in the MAC with 112 saves.
Sophomore Elizabeth Blaum also added two defensive saves for the Cardinals. Ball State leads the MAC with 10 on the season as Mann, Pasillas and Blaum currently rank in the top four for defensive saves in the MAC rankings.
Central Michigan limited Ball State to just seven shots on goal compared to the Chippewas' 19 for the game, as well as 6-5 in penalty corners. The win for Central Michigan is the team's fourth straight.
The Cardinals will wrap up MAC play at Miami 1 p.m. Sunday. Miami holds a 13-6 overall record after beating Michigan Saturday and are 6-3 in the MAC.
Ball State's seed for the MAC tournament in Kent, Ohio will be determined after Sunday's game. A win will automatically give the Cardinals a No. 5 seed as they are currently tied with Missouri State who finished its regular season with a 1-9 record after a loss to Kent State.
