O'Connor Named MAC Golfer of the Week
October 09, 2008 | Women's Golf
Kirsty O'Connor (Burnley, Lancashire, U.K.), a junior member of the Ball State University women's golf team, has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.
O'Connor received the award after leading the Cardinals to the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational Championship Saturday through Monday. O'Connor tied for sixth as an individual with a 77-73-79=229 in the 75-person field. Ball State's 921 team score defeated the second place Iowa Hawkeyes by five strokes and ahead of other Big Ten opponents Wisconsin and Penn State.
This marked the second time in O'Connor's career she has won the weekly award. She was also named the MAC Golfer of the Week after winning the 2008 Butler Spring Invitational.
O'Connor is third on the team with a 77.45 average after 11 competitive rounds this fall. Ball State, which has claimed two tournament titles this fall -- the Ball State Cardinal Classic and the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational -- returns to action Oct. 27-28 at the Pat Bradley Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla.
