Field Hockey Closes Weekend With Loss At Kent State
October 26, 2008 | Field Hockey
KENT, Ohio ? The Ball State field hockey team concluded this weekend's play as the Cardinals fell 3-1 to Kent State Sunday.
After losing to the Golden Flashes 5-0 in October, head coach Annette Payne stated that the team had made adjustments since the last meeting.
“We were able to play disciplined field hockey today,” Payne said. The Cardinals trailed 20-4 in shots during the last match-up but limited Kent State to just 12 shots and attempted seven of their own in today's game, four of which were on goal.
However, with its eighth straight victory, Kent State clinched its ninth conference regular season title on Senior Day.
Freshman Debbie Bell led the Golden Flashes' attack with her 18th goal this season in the first four minutes of the game. It would be the only goal during the first 35 minutes allowing Kent State to lead 1-0 at halftime.
Nicole Leach quickly earned the second goal three minutes in the second half. The scored remained 2-0 for the next 20 minutes of play until Allison Kittelberger added a third goal for the Golden Flashes.
Junior Brooke MacGillivary recorded her first goal of the season after she rebounded a shot off a penalty corner in a last attempt for a Cardinal comeback.
On the defensive end, Melanie Pasillas earned her third defensive save this season, and goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett made four more saves in the net for the Cardinals.
Ball State will finish its regular season schedule as the team takes on Central Michigan 1 p.m. November 1 followed a match-up 1 p.m. November 2 at Miami
