BOWLING Green,
"We had some rough edges tonight," Ball State head coach Brady Hoke says. "We need to improve. But give Western Kentucky credit, they were a good football team and their offense was difficult to bring down. We just want to play as well as we can and keep improving."
The Cardinals took the early lead after junior quarterback Nate
In the second half, Ball State's offense tallied 17 points, while holding the Hilltoppers scoreless until the final minute of the game.
MiQuale Lewis, a junior H-Back for the Cardinals, jump started the offense in the second half with a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:14 to play in the third stanza. The TD run capped a 6-play, 71-yard drive for Ball State's offense.
Ball State's Trey Lewis made a big play late in the fourth quarter when he intercepted the 10th pass of his career. The momentum continued to go the Cardinals way and Louis Johnson capped off the Ball State scoring with a 20-yard touchdown reception from Davis. With his 14-of-22 passing performance, Davis has moved into second in Ball State history in career pass attempts.
"The kids wanted the shutout and the coaches wanted it for them," Hoke says. But we were able to play some young players and get them some valuable experience.
The Cardinals, 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play, are off this week before returning to the friendly confines of Scheumann Stadium for their next two contests and the stretch of five MAC contests. Ball State will host Eastern Michigan Oct. 25, with a noon kickoff and then host Northern Illinois Wed., Nov. 5 for an 8 p.m. game.
