
Swimming & Diving Sweeps Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. - - The Ball State swimming and diving program scored a Saturday sweep over Eastern Illinois, as the men's team defeated the Panthers 157-116, while the women's squad tallied a 170-120 victory.
After opening the meet with a first-place clocking of 1:38.39 by its 200 medley relay squad of Tyler Dixon, Jordan Rantz, Chris Krupa and Austin Laska, the men's team cruised to a 157-116 victory by claiming the top spot in 12 of the 16 events.
Kyle Hembree followed the relay victory with a time of 10:07.85 in the 1000 freestyle, and added another victory in the 500 freestyle (4:57.53) later in the meet. Tyler Dixon posted first-place times in the 100 backstroke (55.20) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.44), while Austin Laska also scored a pair of wins, posting first-place clockings in the 50 freestyle (21.70) and 100 freestyle (48.58).
Also scoring event wins for the men's squad were Mark Augustyn (200 freestyle; 1:48.80), Andrew Hostetler (200 butterfly; 2:02.98), David White (1-meter diving; 236.25) and David Linn (3-meter diving; 239.70).
The men's team ended the meet with a first-place showing by Josh Young, Casey Schroeder, Tony DeBrota and Laska in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.44).
On the way to their 170-120 victory, the women's squad posted first-place finishes in 13 of the 16 events. BSU started the meet strong, as Erika Paul, Lauren Harger, Sarah Hostetler and Katie Bylsma posted a time of 1:50.78 to take home the top spot in the 200 medley relay.
The Cardinals followed with a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle, as Mary Ehresman paced the pool with a time of 10:43.60. Maria Gramelspacher followed with her first of two event victories, as she was the top performer in both the 200 freestyle (2:00.11) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.40).
Also posting event wins for the women's squad were Lauren Harger (100 breaststroke; 1:08.00), Megan Ploetz (200 butterfly; 2:08.90), Katie Bylsma (50 freestyle; 25.25), Lisa Maertin (1-meter diving; 246.23), Shelli Kopetzky (200 backstroke; 2:12.08), Emily Hurst (500 freestyle; 5:25.65), Whitney Johnson (3-meter diving; 289.73) and Erika Paul (200 IM; 2:15.30).
The women's squad concluded the meet with a first-place swim of 3:40.51 in the 400 freestyle relay, by a team comprise of Gramelspacher, Harger, Saulters and Bylsma.
