Women's Tennis Defeats Dayton In Season Opener, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team (1-0) captured a 6-1 victory over Dayton on Saturday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals won all three of their doubles matches. The Ball State duo of senior co-captains Haly Calderwood (Newington, Australia/Danebank) and Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) defeated Allysa Detroy and Megan Gray, 8-4. Junior Emma Retter (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) alongside teammate newcomer Hayley Hall (Muncie, Ind./Delta) tallied a 8-6 win over Kelly O'Connell and Nicole Dzubay. Sophomore Katherine Rist (Leawood, Kansas/Blue Valley North) and freshman Georgina Thomson (Sydney, Australia/St. Margaret's) beat Kellaina Grote and Molly Mathews, 8-4.
Ball State dropped just one singles match for the day. Sophomore Sophie Quist (Australia/Ascham School) took a close 7-6 (9), 6-3 match from Detroy at No. 1 singles. Pollack earned the 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot over Gray. Retter also rolled past Chelsea Glankley, 6-3, 6-1.
Rounding out the BSU wins on the night were Hall winning 6-4, 6-1 over Dzubay and Thomson with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Mathews.
Ball State continues its two-match home stand when it hosts Wright State on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m.
