
Field Hockey Falls On The Road At Central Michigan

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Ball State field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road Sunday against Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan.
The Cardinals were out-shot 10-6 by the Chippewas. Four different Ball State players recorded a shot on goal, but none were able to get past Central Michigan goalkeeper Louise Gericke.
Midway through the first half, the Chippewas turned a scoreless tie into a 2-0 lead in a matter of minutes. At the 21:23 mark, Central Michigan's Kim Sihota directed a pass into the cage to break the tie. Then, in the 24th minute, Carolyn Bennett scored off a centering pass from Moyra Betuzzi to give the Chippewas a two-goal advantage.
Betuzzi later added a goal of her own in the 51st minute to extend the Central Michigan lead to three goals.
Amanda Pavone recorded a team-high two shots for Ball State, and goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett made four saves.
Ball State drops to 2-9 (0-4 MAC) on the season, while Central Michigan improves to 2-7 (1-1 MAC). The Cardinals now return to Muncie to take on Missouri State Saturday at 11 a.m. at BSU Turf Field.
