Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Ball State Fall Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team concluded its fall invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Newcomer Hayley Hall (Muncie, Ind./ Delta) advanced to the finals of the Flight C singles bracket after defeating Butler's Michelle Hawes by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Hall would drop the final match to McPhillips of Miami, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Sophie Quist (Australia/Ascham) was crowned champion in the consolation championship match of Flight A singles. Quist pulled off a 7-6 (4), 6-1 victory over Megan Gray of Dayton in the semifinals and then went on to defeat Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Martina Schnapp, 7-5, 7-6 (7).
In other singles action senior Haly Calderwood (Sydney, Australia/Danebank) took a 6-4, 6-4 match from Sachi Janke of IPFW. Junior Emma Retter (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) was victorious over Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Sammi Schoen, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). Senior Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) defeated Butler's Michelle Hawes, 7-6 (2), 7-5. Sophomore Katherine Rist (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North) claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dayton's Molly Mathews while teammate Rachel Surowiec (LaPorte, Ind./IPFW) won her match over Mollee Carpenter of IPFW, 6-4, 6-1.
The twosome of Quist and Calderwood won the Flight C doubles consolation final match over Dayton's Detroy and Gray, 8-5.
Ball State women's tennis continues fall play when it travels to the University of Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 5.
