MUNCIE, Ind. ? Due to the torrential rains that moved through the area last night, the Ball State soccer team's exhibition game against Indiana State has been postponed until Sunday afternoon. The two teams will face off at the BSU Soccer Field at 1 p.m. Sunday. As always, admission is FREE to all Ball State Soccer games.
The Cardinals are coming off of a 6-0 victory over IUPUI in their first exhibition game of the season last weekend. Senior defender Lindsay Martin (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and junior forward Sarah Schumacker (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) each tallied two goals apiece to pace the offensive attack.
Ball State out-shot the Jaguars by a 17-9 margin and scored three second half goals in just under 10 minutes of action. Freshman Cortney Coombs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) tallied the Cardinals' final goal of the afternoon as she made a start in her first collegiate appearance.
The Cardinal defense was strong against IUPUI as it limited the Jaguars to just two shots on goal, both coming in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Rachael Murphy (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) played a flawless first half while sophomore net minder Amy Cleeter (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) notched two saves in the second half for the combined shutout.
Saturday's contest against Indiana State will be the Cardinals last exhibition game on the year and will be the final tune-up for the season opener on Friday, August 31 when they host IPFW at 4 p.m.
