Soccer Hosts IUPUI In Exhibition Saturday

“We are looking forward to opening our year and this is a great opportunity to see our team in game action,” head coach Michelle Salmon said. “We are excited to face someone other than ourselves for the first time this fall.”
The Cardinals are coming off of a 13-4-3 season in 2006 in which they won their first ever Mid-American Conference regular season championship.
Leading the charge on the offense is a trio of forwards that started for the Cardinals last year in senior Sarah Leibel (
On the defensive end, seniors Lindsay Martin (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and Angie Heyer (Zanesville, Ind./Homestead) join junior Jen Vilkoski (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) as returnees in the back. The three combined to play in 47 games last season and helped the Cardinals hold opponents to just 22 goals.

Saturday's game will also be the inaugural appearance for seven true freshmen on the 2007 squad. Among the freshmen making their first appearance at BSU Soccer Field will be goalkeeper Ashley Williamson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg), forward Claire Richardson (Highland Village, Texas/Marcus), forward Vanessa Stone (Gilbert, Ariz./Mesquite), forward Kristina Anderson (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin), midfielder/forward Jacki Eft (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), defender Meg Mellott (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) and defender/midfielder Cortney Coombs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain).
