Wayne Denger Named 2006-07 Team MVP

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Senior Wayne Denger, who completed his four-year collegiate golf career at Ball State in May, was named the team's Travis J. Smith Most Valuable Performer for the 2006-07 season.
The honor was awarded May 19 at the team's postseason banquet held at the home of BSU Athletics Director Tom Collins at The Player's Club Golf Course in Yorktown, Ind.
Parents, players and supporters then enjoyed an afteroon round of golf at TPC.
Denger was BSU's most conisistent performer all season, finishing as BSU's top golfer in four of six spring events.
He also paced the Cardinals in three events last fall en route to a team-low fall stroke average of 73.50.
In the spring season, Denger carded a team-low 73.77 stroke average in all 18 rounds of action. He finished his BSU career with a 74.78 average to rank fourth all-time in school history.
The MVP award is named in memory of Travis Smith, a freshman member of the 2006-07 BSU golf team who was tragically killed in an automobile accident Jan. 27 in Muncie. Smith's parents were at the banquet to present Denger with his award.
