Soccer Announces 2007 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Fresh off of its first ever Mid-American Conference regular season championship, Ball State soccer head coach Michelle Salmon has announced an 18-game schedule for the 2007 season. The schedule includes nine home games at the BSU Soccer Field and contests against two NCAA Tournament from last season.

“We are excited about adding four new teams to our 2007 schedule,” Salmon said. “Our schedule will stretch us and challenge us as we look to defend our MAC regular season title.”

The Cardinals will kick off the 2007 campaign with a pair of exhibition games at the BSU Soccer Field with IUPUI coming in on August 18 and Indiana State on August 25.

Ball State will open the regular season at home for just the third time in program history as it hosts IPFW on August 31 at 4 p.m. The Cardinals will face off against another instate rival on September 2 as they host Butler. The contest with the Bulldogs will mark the sixth straight season that the two teams have met on the soccer field.

The Cardinals open their 2007 road slate with the program's first ever trip to the Sunshine State as BSU takes part in the FAU Kickoff Classic September 7-9. Ball State will open the tournament with its only night game of the season as it takes on host Florida Atlantic. The Cardinals will also face off against NCAA Tournament participant UNC-Greensboro in the second game of the tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.

Ball State continues its four-game road swing the following weekend as it travels to Eastern Illinois on September 14. The Cardinals will travel to Bloomington, Ind. where they will take on the Indiana Hoosiers for just the second time in program history on September 16. The Cardinals will wrap up their non-conference schedule at home as they battle Illinois State September 21.

The 2007 Mid-American Conference seasons gets underway with a pivotal weekend as the Cardinals host Central Michigan on Sept. 28. Ball State will continue its conference opening weekend as it faces off against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 28. The Cardinals will honor their 2006 MAC Championship as a championship ring ceremony will be held prior to the EMU contest.

“Opening our conference slate against perennial power Central Michigan is a great challenge,” Salmon said. “We are ready to defend our MAC regular season title and it is a great feeling for us to start that defense at home in Muncie.”

After a pair of road contests at Ohio and Akron, the Cardinals will host four straight MAC games at the BSU Soccer Field. They will welcome in Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and defending MAC Tournament champion Toledo.

The Cardinals will close out the regular season with three straight road games as they play at Buffalo, at Kent State and wrap up the season at rival Miami on Nov. 1.

The 2007 MAC Tournament will kick off with the quarterfinals on Nov. 4 with the semifinals and finals will be held Nov. 9 and 11, respectively. As always, the MAC Tournament quarterfinals will be held on campus sites while the semifinals and finals are held at the highest remaining seed.
