April 27, 2007 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's and women's tennis teams will Compete at the Mid-American Conferene Tournament on Friday, April 27.
The men enter the league tournament as the No. 2 seed with a bye after a second place finish with a 4-1 MAC record. The Cardinals will take on No. 3 Toledo at 2 p.m. at IPFW which is located in Fort Wayne, Ind. A win over the Rockets would advance Ball State to the championship match where they could face Northern Illinois, Buffalo or league rival Western Michigan. BSU defeated Toledo earlier this year in regular season play by a score of 4-3. Ball State has 19 MAC titles under its belt. The legacy began in 1984 after the Cardinals posted a 19-5 overall record and an 8-0 stint in league play. BSU has recorded 16 undefeated MAC seasons. Ball State has participated in the MAC for the last 31 years, claiming 34 regular season and/ or tournament championships. Since the MAC tournament format started in 1997, the Cardinals have won the league tournament five times (1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005).
The women are the No. 7 seed and are scheduled to play No. 2 Buffalo at 2 p.m. in Toledo, Ohio. At last night's banquet, freshman Sophie Quist was named second team All-MAC. The honoree will play at No. 1 singles for the Cardinals.
