Soccer Concludes Spring Season With Annual Alumni Game

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State soccer team wrapped up its 2007 spring season with a 3-1 victory in the annual Alumni Game on Saturday afternoon at the BSU Soccer Field. The Cardinals scored three second half goals to down the Alumni in the 70-minute contest.

The BSU Alumni jumped out to an early lead against the Cardinals as it scored in the 10^th minute of the game. The Cardinals responded after a tough 35-minute first half and scored just four minutes into the second half.

Midfielder Annie Aiello keyed the turnaround as she sent a long breakout pass on the counter attack that found forward Sarah Leibel behind the defense and in on a breakaway in the 39^th minute. Leibel dribbled around the on-charging goalkeeper and poked the loose ball into the back of the net for a 1-1 tie.

The Cardinals struck again in the 43^rd minute as midfielder Megan Ridley beat two defenders and sent a cross into the box. Forward Laura Bandy was the recipient of the cross as she buried a chance from 10-yards out.

Ball State closed out the scoring in the 56^th minute as once again Ridley was the distributor of the ball. She was able to find some open space and sent a cross to the far post where forward Emily Rein was there for the easy tap-in and a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals out-shot the Alumni by a 23-6 margin in the victory.
