
BSU Baseball Splits Wednesday Doubleheader At Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ball State baseball team split a doubleheader Wednesday at Ohio State, winning the first game 5-0 and dropping the second 3-2.
Both games were seven-inning contests. With the split, the Cardinals' record now stands at 15-21, while Ohio State is 19-10.
Game 1 Recap
The Ball State baseball team earned a 5-0 victory in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader at Ohio State.
Richie Fralick got the midweek start for the Cardinals and earned the win, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings. Fralick scattered three hits in picking up his second win of the season.
At the plate, eight Ball State players hit safely, led by Nate Fields' two hits. Wayne Bond picked up a single in his final at bat to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
Ball State found the scoreboard early with two runs in the second inning. The Cardinals put runners on the corners with no outs before Alex Schmid singled home the game's opening run. Bond later brought home the second run of the inning on an RBI groundout.
The Cardinals tacked on two more runs with three straight hits in the third inning. Eric Earnhart led off the inning with a double and scored when Matt Stoeklen followed with a double of his own. Justin Rogers then singled to plate Stoeklen and give Ball State a 4-0 advantage.
Ball State later added an insurance run in the sixth inning when pinch hitter Tyler Rogers singled up the middle to score Fields, who had reached on a double.
Kyle Heyne entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with the bases loaded and two outs and pitched the Cardinals out of a jam. He then pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn his ninth save of the year. Heyne, who owns 23 career saves, is now one save shy of tying Ball State's all-time career record.
Game 2 Recap
In the second game, Ball State scored first, but Ohio State came from behind for a 3-2 victory.
Fields again had two hits to lead the Cardinals.
Kory Benbow put Ball State on the board in the first inning with a two-out solo home run. The homer was the eighth of the season for Benbow, who leads the Mid-American Conference.
Ohio State answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Ball State managed one more run in the fifth inning when Stoeklen grounded into a fielder's choice to score Earnhart from third base.
Josh Edgin earned the win for Ohio State after allowing one run in two innings out of the bullpen, and Jake Hale picked up the save for the Buckeyes.
Bond reached base in his final plate appearance after being hit by a pitch, but his season-long hitting streak came to an end at 13 games.
Luke Behning, Tom Mueller and Aaron Hammons combined to throw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Ball State.
