
Cards Score 16 Runs In The 7th Inning To Earn The Win

TOLEDO,Ohio -- The Ball State softball team swept the Toledo Rockets 6-4 and 17-10 in a doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Cardinals are now 6-4 in Mid-American Conference play and 15-23 overall.
In game one, the Cards got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Rockets battled back by scoring four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.
Ball State responded in the fifth inning as Kelli Jeziorski hit a double to lead off the inning. Taylor Yancey tied the game by blasting a two-run home run to right field.
In the sixth inning Toledo got two quick outs before walking Jeziorski. Yancey came to the plate and delivered a single to keep the inning alive. Both Jeziorski and Yancey were able to advance on a wild pitch while Abby Gross was at the plate. Gross was then walked on four straight balls.
Elizabeth Milian came to the plate and was also walked, brining Jeziorski home for the go ahead run. The Cardinals got another run as Amanda Pick was walked, bringing Yancey home for the 6-4 lead.
Milian picked up her 10th win of the season for the Cardinals. Milian threw a complete game and struck out four.
In game two Ball State trailed Toledo 7-1 going into the seventh inning. Yancey hit a solo home run for her seventh of the season, tying Jeziorski for the BSU single-season home run record.
Amanda Pick got Ball State started with a double to start the 7th inning. Amber Wolf got hit by a pitch to advance to first and Kam Holle singled to left field to load the bases.
Freshman Alisha Etzler doubled to centerfield scoring two runs to start the Ball State comeback. After Allie Pennock was walked Jeziorski came to the plate and hit a double to right field scoring two more BSU runners making the game 7-5.
With Pennock on third and Jeziorski on second Toledo walked Yancey making the bases loaded for Gross. Gross gave the Cardinals the lead by hitting a grand slam. The home run is the fifth of the season for Gross and the 12th of her career.
Milian drove a ball into left field during her next at-bat. The Cardinals increased their lead with a two-run home run by Pick.
Overall in the seventh inning the Cardinals scored 16 runs on 12 hits to secure the 17-10 victory.
Pick got the win for Ball State. Pick went 3-for-5 in game two with four RBI, Gross finished 2-for-5 with five RBI, and Jeziorski went 2-for-5 with four RBI in the comeback win.
Ball State returns to action April 14, to face the Bowling Green Falcons at 2 p.m.
