
No. 7 Ohio State Tops No. 15 Men?s Volleyball in Four

COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The No. 15 Ball State men's volleyball team saw its bid for an upset over No. 7 Ohio State fall short Friday evening, dropping a 1-3 (21-30, 30-28, 26-30, 23-30) decision to the Buckeyes at St. John Arena.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play. Ohio State improves to 16-1 (5-0 MIVA) with the victory.
While senior Nick Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller H.S.) paced the Ball State offense with 17 kills, freshman Eric Schulte (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood H.S.) provided a huge spark for the Cardinals, smashing a career-high 11 kills, including five in the game-two victory. Schulte also added a career-best eight digs.
With his 17 kills, Meyer became just the seventh player in school history to break 1,200 career kills, upping his career total to 1,214.
Sophomore Matt McCarthy (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South H.S.) also smashed double-figure kills for Ball State, finishing the night with 11.
Senior Mark Rumschik (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park H.S.) paced all players with 10 digs, while adding six kills.
Overall, five different Buckeyes tallied double-figure kills in the match, with Robbie Klein tying BSU's Meyer for match-high honors with 17.
As a team, the Buckeyes held a decisive .352 (67-22-128) to .195 (55-30-128) attacking advantage, while doubling the Cardinals in team blocks 16 to 8.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will return to action Wednesday, March 14, when it plays the first of two-straight matches versus defending national champion No. 5 UCLA.
