March 05, 2007 | Field Hockey
For the third consecutive season, the Ball State field hockey team has had nine players earn recognition on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, as announced Monday by the NFHCA.
Lauren Cruz, Nicole Humphreys, Jamie Kahn , Katie Kloeckener, Caroline Lehman, Brooke MacGillivary, Melanie Pasillas, Amanda Pavone and Maura Sawicki each earned the honor.
The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year.
Cruz, Humphreys, Kahn, Kloeckener and Pavone - all juniors - have each been recognized three years in a row. Pasillas, a sophomore, has been named to the squad two straight years, and Lehman, MacGillivary and Sawicki - each freshmen - earned the honor for the first time.
The nine honorees matches the second-most all-time at Ball State. The Cardinals' 1997 team had the most players recognized with 12.
