Denger's Final-Round 71 Leads BSU In Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Wayne Denger managed a one-under par round of 71 Tuesday afternoon, but was seven shots better than any of his BSU teammates as the Ball State men's golf team posted a final-round team score of 304 to finish 16th at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate played at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.
The Cardinals finished in 16th-place in the 17-team event after a three-round total of 903.
Lamar controlled the 54-hole event from the start with an 832 total, while Middle Tennessee State's final-round 281 moved them into second with an 848 three-round score.
"Our guys just need to relax and go out and play golf," said BSU head coach Mike Fleck. " The bottom line is we have to shoot lower scores. We did not take advantage of the good conditions. It's not that we played poorly, but we didn't have any under-par scores on days where the conditions allowed for low scores."
C.D. Hockersmith, who was BSU's top performer after the first two rounds, tied for 55th (75-73-78), while Brian Maurer (73-76-78) and Andy Skillman (77-73-77) tied for 60th. Austin Steele finished 91st (80-81-85).
Ball State returns to action April 6 at the Marshal Invitational in Huntington, W. Va.
