Women's Golf Wins Butler Spring Invitational

AVON, Ind. -- At the end of the 36-hole Butler Spring Invitational played at Prestwick Country Club, the Ball State women's golf team found its name all over the leaderboard.
Not only did the Cardinals defend their team title from a year ago with a 13-stroke win over second-place IPFW, but freshman Kirsty O'Connor and sophomore Sarah Windlan tied for individual medalist honors with a two-round total of 156.
The two Cardinals capped the afternoon with a one-hole playoff on Prestwick's first hole.
After both hit good drives, Windlan hit her approach shot left of the green, while O'Connor hit the green in regulation.
Windlan's chip left her with a five-foot putt for par -- which she missed -- allowing for O'Connor to tap in for par and the playoff victory.
"I am very happy for our team," said BSU head coach Katherine Mowat. "We didn't play well in our first tournament, and we knew coming into this event as the defending champs, we had a chance to do it again. I think it says a lot about our team and especially having a sophomore and a freshman against each other in a playoff. It was a good event and something our team needed to get things going this spring."
Ball State posted rounds of 320 and 317 to win the nine-team event.
