
Ball State Finishes Fourth In The MT Strikeout Breast Cancer Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Ball State Softball team finished the tournament with a 1-4 record, putting them at 3-7 overall. On the final day of the tournament, the Cardinals got a rematch against host Middle Tennessee State.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was sophomore Kamilah Holle. Holle hit two home runs, scored three runs and earned three RBIs. Her first home run was a solo shot that gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead in the second inning. Her second home run made a larger impact as the Cardinals posted four runs in the inning and took a 7-5 lead.
The Blue Raiders bounced back in the fifth inning as they scored five runs to regain the lead at 10-9. In total, MTSU hit three home runs and five doubles to generate 13 runs.
Ball State hit a total of six home runs during the MTSU tournament which brings them to a season total of 15. The BSU single-season home run record stands at 18 set by the 2005 team.
Both Kelli Jeziorski and Holle hit two during the tournament, while Taylor Yancey and Abby Gross each had one.
The home run by junior Abby Gross marks her 10th home run of her career. Gross is currently second all-time for career home runs as the record stands at 12 by Ruth Hjelmeland during the 2000-03 season.
The Cardinals will return to action this weekend to play in the Southern Illinois Tournament. The tournament begins March 3rd as Ball State will face Western Illinois at 10: a.m.
