February 18, 2007 | Softball
HAMMOND, La. -- The Ball State softball team opened its 2007 season under new head coach Craig Nicholson with three games Saturday at the Lion Softball Scramble in Hammond, La.
The Cardinals went 1-2 on opening day, falling to Indiana State 2-1 and host Southeastern Louisiana 10-6, before an 8-5 win over St. Louis in the nightcap.
The win over the Billikens was Nicholson's first at Ball State and his 724th as a collegiate head coach.
"The first win was exciting and hopefully the first of many for our program at Ball State," Nicholson said. "The thing that was most pleasing today, was that every game we played we improved. That's what we want to establish each day."

Game two on Sunday will be played at 12:30 p.m. against either Southeastern Louisiana or St. Louis.
